Flexible leather martingale with stainless brass fittings. The martingale, mostly used in jumping, prevents the horse from throwing its head up. Additionally, the martingale creates an angle in the reins if the horse does raise its head, allowing the bit to apply downward pressure on the bars rather than on the less sensitive corners of the mouth.
